The first consultation

Mark allows an hour for the first consultation. Apart from discussing the health problems the patient has at present; life style/environment, prior illnesses, operations, major physical or emotional traumas and hereditary factors will also need to be discussed at this stage to establish trends of illness in the patient. This is important information in building up a picture towards which Mark can prescribe with the aim of restoring health. Questions may seem odd to a patient or owner who has not experienced such an in depth approach before; especially as questions pertaining to personality, eq. likes and dislikes, fears, and odd behaviour patterns may also be relevant. Often the first consultation is a huge learning curve and many things will be recalled afterwards that were not mentioned. It is important to let Mark know these if they are recalled later, as they may help with resolving the case.

Remedies

For Homeopathy this comes in the form of either a single or repeated dose of tablets or a daily liquid remedy. It is supplied at the consultation or sent to you later through the post. It can seem odd take such small amounts, but these tiny remedy doses are intended to trigger the body's innate healing processes. Therefore, unless suffering from an acute illness, the rule is to take the minimum dose advised then wait and gauge the body's individual reaction. As Homeopathy is an energy medicine very often the first sign of the body righting itself is heightened energy and a sense of well being, this is then followed by the deeper curative process.

It is usual to administer a remedy and then wait between 2 to 4 weeks before the next appointment. It is useful to keep a weekly diary of changes as they happen to report at the follow-up consultation

(More detailed advice on dosing remedies)

For Acupuncture Mark usually uses a Laser instead of needles, which has proven better tolerated in long-term patients, and results appear to last for longer as well.

Follow-up:  This is an important part of the curative process. Mostly this will be in the form of further consultations (normally half an hour in length), but in some cases phone or email reports can be useful in the intervening periods. Apart from Wednesdays, Mark trys to allocate 9 to 9.30am each day for a phone-in time where discussion is free of charge, as are any requested email reports. Otherwise advice given in returned phone calls and emails is charged as detailed below.

What is Homeopathy ?

Homeopathy is a holistic medicine which has been in worldwide use for over 200 years. It is a method of healing which employs the use of tiny energised doses of plant, mineral or animal extracts to stimulate the body's inherent ability to heal itself.

This system of medicine was pioneered by Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), a German, physician and chemist who was so disillusioned with the dangerous medical practices of his day that he dedicated his life to a quest for a safe and effective alternative. Homeopathy uses tiny doses of safe, refined substances called remedies which activate the curative process.

Homeopathy in Practice

Homeopathy has historically been used to treat almost any complaint ranging from acute illnesses such stomach upsets and ear problems, to more chronic conditions such as allergies, arthritis, ME, colitis, and even depression. Homeopathy is said to be excellent for conditions such as stress and bereavement, which affect animals as well as us humans, and can be supportive during the transitional phases of lives eg pregnancy, moving to new households etc.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine involving the insertion of needles (or more recently the application of painless Laser) into specific points on the body to cause a desired healing effect. It is used all over the world to treat a wide range of problems, but most commonly pain, in all species. Often used in combination with other treatments such as Physiotherapy it is a drug free and safe way of maintaining athletes (such as Racehorses) in top condition, or mobilizing and strengthening the aged arthritic patient.

Homeopathy & Acupuncture can be used in conjunction with most conventional long-term drug treatments.

Homeopathy & Acupuncture are holistic systems of medicine.

A holistic system of medicine encompasses all aspects of being.... physical, mental, emotional, and environmental. This approach to healing individualises the patient. The more factors the homoeopath can take into consideration, the more a clear picture of the patient is built up. In Homeopathy this is very important as the practitioner is always seeking the precise remedy. Matching the remedy to the individual involves knowing the properties of thousands of remedies. This is the main purpose of the consultation process.
